Conservation of Amphibians and Reptiles

Herpetology is the study of Reptiles and Amphibians through both habitat observation and through scientific studies. To conserve reptiles and amphibians we must continue to study and understand life histories in order to plan for species and ecosystem recovery. We must understand and know the reasons for extinction and decline and take a long-term approach. Conservation of the amphibians and reptiles in the Northwest and habitats is vitally important to the future of all our species.

We support research because it is extremely important to the survival of our Reptiles and Amphibians. We recognize that most research in the field is volunteer or expensive and may limit resources in learning about different species that may be in danger. Herpetology Northwest recognizes that research must be encouraged with as little hindrance as possible. Research is essential and must focus on causes and solutions, and conservation programs need to be on guard against technologies that may provide a false sense of accomplishment.

For other states in the U.S.: Endangered species habitat conservation planning information can be found by following this link to the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service Website.

Partners in Amphibian & Reptile Conservation
Looking to learn more about Amphibian and Reptile conservation, education, or publications and resources? We suggest visiting PARC (Partners in Amphibian and Reptile Conservation) is the place to go! The organization is an inclusive partnership dedicated to the conservation of the herpetofauna-reptiles and amphibians-and their habitats. Visit their website!
