Area Information
Ankeny National Wildlife Area is a year round home to migrating and local raptors. The landscape for this refuge is flat to rolling hills which offers wetlands for many of the bird species that stop over.

Area Amphibians and Reptiles are not mentioned in many publications but home to several species such as the Red-spotted Garter Snake, Western Pond Turtle (note: has started to disapear), Pacific Treefrog and Salamanders. All together there are 8 species of amphibians, and 10 species of reptiles in the area. Driving Directions
  • Travel north 10 miles from Albany, Oregon, or south 12 miles from Salem, Oregon, on Interstate 5.
  • Take exit 243, Ankeny Hill Road, and drive west one quarter of a mile to an intersection.
  • Turn right at the intersection and proceed 1.5 miles on Ankeny Hill Road to the information kiosk and wildlife viewing area.
