This demands the development of personal or professional virtues, qualities that enable the person to be good and that spur him to do well. The principles implicit in the concept of individual virtue rightly emphasize the importance of not simply deciding what is good but of actually achieving ends that are good. Any virtue itself depends upon some prior definition of what is good.
